During the last week of April, I went for the last of my summer swims. Stretching from a dip in December, the day after finishing work for the year, to mid-autumn, the season has seen me step down into ocean and harbour pools, leap over waves along the south coast, and dive forth into choppy breaks. It’s seen me swim lap after lap on sunny mornings and on an evening so hot that a walk from the office to the pool felt like pushing through the warm air of an oven.
